I've been listening to My Morning Jacket lately. Touch Me I'm Going to Scream Pt. 2 is unbelievable. I just can't quit listening to it. It has an awesome video reminiscent of Sendak's Where the Wild Things Are. Look for it. It's ethereal.
My nine year old is going away with short notice to Boston for the rest of the week. I suppose that I'm ok with her going to visit her aunt and cousins, but I'm so not ok with the fact that she has to fly back home with just her eleven year old cousin. Luckily, her cousin has done this before and she's really protective of my daughter;plus I know that the airlines watch over children who fly without adults. But I'm still anxious about it. It doesn't help that this is my child who has asperger's syndrome either. You can't always predict how she'll react, but she wants to do this. She's gone without us before when she was seven, she went with her grandmother then. I just hate letting her do this. But if I didn't think that she could do it, I wouldn't let her. That still doesn't keep me from being a nervous wreck about sending her.
What will I do this week? Hmmm... it seems that now that the Boston section of the family is leaving and the kids are out of school, things will settle down to normal. I'm glad about that. Jim's got to go to training in Chattanooga for a couple of days so the girls and I will be on our own. We've got to go get a wedding present, I'm going to a lingerie shower for a friend, and perhaps we'll go get some seaweed salad. I really love that stuff. Perhaps we'll go spend an afternoon at Cheekwood in the botanical gardens. That's always fun. I'm almost finished with dealing with the kid's clothes. I just have to tackle #1's room and sort out the stuff that she's outgrown. I also still have to grade papers. I'll start tonight. Right now I'm waiting for the carpet man to come and measure my bedroom for the new carpet.
What am I doing on fall break? Well, I need to be doing housework as usual. But I'm not. I'm here. I'm just piddling around. I'm volunteering at the girls' book fair tomorrow night, I'm reading
How to Read Literature Like a Professor, and some other books on teaching literary criticism to my classes. I'm also "busy" grading papers - still haven't started that one yet.
